NJ Domestic Violence Resource Guide
You do not have to continue to be the victim of an abusive relationship, and you don’t have to go through this alone. Here are some resources for those who suffer from domestic violence in New Jersey. We hope you will use this list to find the help you need.
The U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline can be called for immediate assistance at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) and 1-800-787-3224 (TTY)
The New Jersey Statewide Domestic Violence Hotline, working under the NJ Department of Children and Families, provides a 24-hour, seven-day-a week Hotline 1(800) 572-SAFE (7233)– for domestic violence victims and others seeking information about domestic violence.
The New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women (NJCBW) website has many programs and resources for domestic violence victims, as well as for those interested in becoming members of their local Domestic Violence Response Team.
The New Jersey Department of Children and Families contains a list of the state’s domestic violence programs by County. You can also access a list of Domestic Violence shelters and other related family resources in New Jersey by downloading a pdf provided by the State. Another list, provided by the NJCBW, is available as a pdf here.
The New Jersey State Bar Foundation (NJSBF) makes videos pertaining to domestic violence available free for borrowing, and you can search their site for an array of downloadable documents dealing with the legal ramifications of domestic violence.
A.A.R.D.V.A.R.C. (An Abuse, Rape, and Domestic Violence Aid and Resource Collection) has a wealth of online materials about domestic violence in New Jersey.
The NJ State Department of Community Affairs hosts a Shelter Housing Exit (SHE) Program, which provides security deposits and rental assistance to victims of domestic violence and their children who are currently living in shelters or in transitional housing facilities. The organization’s goal is to move them into permanent housing, free from domestic violence. Participants must be referred to DCA by a Lead Domestic Violence Agency and their income cannot exceed 80 percent of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development median income for the area in which they choose to live. The Jewish Center for Family Services has a domestic abuse program, Project S.A.R.A.H. (Stop Abusive Relationships at Home), which provides counseling, support groups, resource information, and other forms of assistance to victims of domestic abuse and their families. Catholic Charities provide a wide range of services for victims of domestic violence, including a 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline (1-877-871-7551), emergency safe houses, counseling services, domestic abuse support groups, legal advocacy and education.
